Its channel properties determine that it is more efficient than the commonly used NpHR. Anion channel rhodopsins (ACRs) provide highly sensitive and efficient membrane hyperpolarization and neuronal silencing through light-gated chloride conduction. The optimal wavelength for GtACR1 activation is 515nm.
