A history of Chinese ceramics, half of which lies in Jingde.
On 21th September 2023, Brain Case went to Jingdezhen, the “Millennium Porcelain Capital”. The "falling rain" that coincides with the autumnal equinox adds a unique charm to this trip: The blue sky is waiting for misty rain, and I am waiting for you.
Rain is Jingdezhen’s way of welcoming us, and it shows us another kind of its beauty. Jingdezhen in the rain is graceful and peaceful. At that moment, it reveals the beauty of blue and white porcelain.
The Lingzhu Mountain Residence where Brain Case stayed this time is far away from the hustle of the city which allows us return to the country garden. Huizhou-style buildings built against the mountain are scattered in a patchwork pattern, dotted with ponds and streams. The "seclusion" life under the drizzle can be the contentment of a group of people, the tea break chatting with friends, or the laziness of a person...
In the China Guyao Scenic Area, we were lucky enough to visit the on-site ceramic production process.
From clay making, embryo making, drying to glazing...the superb skills of local craftsmen won rounds of applause, their persistence of traditional culture also gave us a deep understanding of the "craftsmanship" of Jingde porcelain for thousands of years.
This was once the location of the Universe Porcelain Factory, known as the "Jingdezhen Royal Porcelain Factory of China". As time has passed, the former Universe Porcelain Factory no longer exists, and was replaced by the "Taoxichuan Cultural and Creative Industrial Park" that was reborn through an industrial heritage renovation project. Green trees, red walls, full of life. The neat factory buildings and tall chimneys bear witness to the former glory of this place.
The renovated Taoxichuan Scenic Area is as beautiful as its name suggests. Just like what it promotes, "Slow down and you can see the truly charming scenery in life and the truly important values in life." Indeed, when you walk here, it seems that time has slowed down.
In the Ceramics class, the teacher described the whole process of making a pottery in detail, and demonstrated step by step the relevant matters that should be paid attention to during the pottery making process. With the teacher’s professional explanation, everyone was confident. Many colleagues have produced many remarkable works through their own efforts.
In just three days, we experienced the profoundness of ceramic culture,
In just three days, we became more familiar with each other,
In just three days, we have become more united, more supportive and friendly.
Brain Case moves forward all the way...
